Bonjour,
This week we started Unité 5: leçon 5 about sweet and salty but also about how much salt or sugar you want with your food.
We are working on the preoposition with and without
without: sans
with: avec
with a little of
with a lot of
And we can combine the ingredients that your students have been learning this quarter.
They are having fun with making normal sentences and bizarre sentences saying they prefer eating their salad with a lot of chocolate.
Bon weekend R&R

The test for Unité 5 leçon 5: Tu as faim? Qu'est-ce que tu veux manger? is this coming week.
5th grades have it tomorrow and 4-5 grades have it Tuesday.
You can practice the vocabulary here.
Not all vocabulary is to be known. Ask your students and use the notebook as guide.

Unité 5 - Lecon 4: Tu as faim?
Chers Parents,
This week and the coming week we are working on the expression:
Are you hungry?
What do you want to eat?
We view different vocabulary words:
Carrots, salad/lettuce (same word used in French), potatoes, rice, fries, chicken, meat, fish, ice cream, chocolate cake and ice cream.
Many of these are similar in French and English.
I sent home a homework that your student might find a little more challenging.
Here is the explanation if you are confused too.
The sentences ask the students what they want to drink (boire: sentence 1 only) or eat (manger) as main course (=plat) or as dessert (=dessert... that is a hard one to guess :-) ).
They can answer writing:
I want to drink => Je veux boire ..............
I want to eat => Je veux manger ..............
The back of the page has a word bank in case your student forgot his/her French notebook home.
Bon weekend!

Unité 5 - leçon 3: Tu as soif?
Bonjour chers Parents!
Welcome back to school8 It was great meeting some of you during the P/T conference. Thank you so much for your support!
We are currently learning how to ask for a drink in French.
Are you thirsty? What do you want to drink?
From there we will learn some drinks in French:
Water, milk, Coke, Juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
5th grade will also learn: bottle, glass, mug/cup and bowl.
The students seems to be already comfortable using the question and answering it. We will reinforce the vocabulary and the fluency of the short dialogue.
Bonne journée!

Unité 5: leçon 2: Les fruits
Les fruits
I apologize for the late posting.
As most of you know, we are currently studying the fruits name in French.
I am sure your child has practiced with you and might have sung the Pomme pêche poire et abricot song. (It's on track 9 of the Loustiques CD, I would not want you to miss that :-) ).
There are 10 fruits in total: pear, apple, cherry, strawberry, kiwi, banana, apricot, orange and grapes.
Many of the words are very similar to English.
Here is a quick learning video (not all vocabulary is included):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIv9F283Lo8
I will test 4 and 5th grades on these on Thursday and Friday.
EDIT: 3rd graders will be tested on Wednesday.
They will have a word bank and only need to be able to recognize the words for this test.
For the parents-treacher conference: If you want to see me, do not hesitate to email me the time you are meeting with the homeroom teacher and I will see if I can accommodate you.
Je vous souhaite de très bonnes fêtes!

Unité 5 leçon 1: Tu as tout pour pique-niquer?
Bonjour,
We have started a new unit and here are the new vocabulary words.
3 and 4 grade:
Fork, knife, spoon, plate, glass and table cloth.
5th grade:
Fork, knife, spoon, plate, glass, table cloth, tomate, pain et fromage.
With 5th grade we will also introduce the concept: "There is"
I stopped using flash cards and instead in class we made a page with flipping illustration and words. I hope it will make it easier for them to learn the vocabulary. It will also be easier to find it since it is glued in the French notebook.
The test on Unité 5 leçon 1 will be next week. Check your students agenda.
Bonne fin de de semaine!
